There are many things in the today that are depressing, war, world hunger, unenployment rate, dropout rate in schools, and almost apocalyptic events such as hurricains, earthquakes, tornados, etc. However, nothing is more depressing than the fact that American Idol could become popular. What does 55million ppl liking this show say about our nation? Maybe that almost 1/5 of our popules are.......well i want this thread to stay open so i'll keep the langauge PG.....but you get my point. At first i tried to keep unbias to the whole thing, thinking that maybe there was some redeeming factor, and since i had never actully seen a episoad of the show, i decided to give it a shot. After an hour of simon cowell saying "that was terrible, why did you come here" and paula giggling and saying "i really liked it, but you're just not right for this compotition", i didnt know what I was watching, was it a joke? Was it real? I couldnt tell the difference anymore, it was scary, i had never been so confused in my life. Before this it has been so simple, theres good TV that people like, and there bad TV that people dont like, but this seemed to be bad TV that people liked.

In summery this is an unintellagent show that thrives on crushing the dreams of aspiring young.....err.....we'll call them artists(once again PG people). Also theres only one person it seems that has seen any real success outside of the show(Kelly Clarkson), and if there not even turning out bubble gum pop stars then whats the point? Its like the heads of major networks, espescially FOX will stop at nothing to make money and get a quick laugh at the suffing of others(case and point "Are You My Daddy?" a short lived reality show on FOX). In conclusing i'd say that a good portion of the nation has a bad case of shouden froude(its spelled badly but its a German word meaning somethign along the lines of "getting pleasure from the suffering of others").

Feel free to post comments/rebuttles or other things that you find depressing(make sure its not realated to politics, realigion, etc. aka stuff thats not aloud on GWG).

Also my last thread of this topic was closed since a mod thought it was flamebait, but i conviced them to let my make a new one if the flaming was kept to a minimum. So lets prove me right and show the mods that we the people of GWG can have a civalized conversation without yelling or flaming. FEAR THE ALMIGHTY BAN STICK!!!

They made Rock Lee sound too generic in the american dub of Naruto this crushes the heart of many, many Rock Lee fans like myself. This is so depressing words can not describe it.

Something i find disgusting is when people drop out of high school there senior year..if you've made it 11 years plus kindergarten and possibly pre-school then what is another year?

As Spock once said (paraphrasing here), the more advanced the mind/culture, the more simple it's play. Or else there's the theory that the human psyche likes to see 'regular people' win, because it makes them feel vicariously part of the "dream" during times when the dream may seem very far away. Most TV is escapism+product marketing anyway, always has been, and such shows are nothing new. There's mindless, horrible dreck in TV-land from/for every generation.

I personally watch almost no TV at all really...a lot of DVD movies, but not TV. Sometimes I buy a whole season of a good TV show in DVD but that's about it.

tv is dead

... tv for new genarations is already seen like radio ... its a good media when you have nothing else . if you have a computer with internet , forget the old boring tv. TV is for people who dont have computer with internet or they have computer with internet but only the kids at home know how to work with.
so conclusion
tv as entertainenemt will be more and more for people with low IQ ( dont mean to be offencive ) what i mean is , people are moving to internet for enterteinement , information , just about everything. the old tv show with all those ridiculus comercials in the midle selling shampoo ... i mean , give us a break.
i can only watch that kinf of program if with a group of friends watching some sport game like soccer and when the shampoo pub comes everyone is shouting about the refere and geting more beer.
watch programs like maerican idol , i must be really sic in bed , and with a moral really doen to watch something as bad as that . im not saying it never hapans , sure it does , but is really a depressing moment , the scum of society .. terrible no brains no sencibility people telling others terrible no barains no sencibility that they are terrible no brains and not sencible .. how down can it go more ?

I don't get it sometimes as well. It's not a contest among the best singers in the country, they can't have that level of talent or it ruins the concept. It's people like you and me in it, and I think that what people are drawn too, the notion any of us could make it big. Throw in some people with some decent talent and a few really good ones and you are set.

The judges are veterans of the music industry. They know who is good and who isn't.

Not to mention these types of shows make you feel like you are missing something if you don't tune in every week. They also run them on the more popular tv nights and don't run them against the best competition.

As much as the show does make you wonder about why it's so popular, it also has to impress you. They took a genre that has been on tv since it's start and found a new twist on it.

Of course Dr. Spock, I believe the episoad u r refering to is shoreleave(that might not be the name but its the one where they find this planet that when ever they tink of sonething it actully appears). I agree that we need "play" especially the more intelectually minded of us but shows like american idol and big brother are just mindless propagnada set up by the big corparations to suck in the weak minded and easily influenced to sell/promote some product or event. And as far as ppl like to see ppl secceed in achiving their dream, only one person from how many seasons, like 4 or 5? has gotten any real recognition, and even then only by more of the same midless pop culture factories like M-TV and vh1, even places and events that r suposed to be about ppl with good music, i.e. the grammies rarely in my opinion give awards to deserving ppl, i say not just as a fan of rock music(which i am) but also as someone who can see good music even they cant appreciate it because of personal tast, such as i can recognize that steevie wonder is good music even though i dont really like to listen to it

What is really depressing is in my mind is that the new pc games all look Manga!!!! Not that I hate Manga...just dislike it realy badly....I guess thats whay I like GW..they look normal!! However the elementalist models...do look a little Manga...*Soooooooooooooooooob* Why cant the illustartors illustrate in a non-Manga way...I just ask... For god sake be a bitt creative...The bigg eyes, and little non-existing mouth is annoying..it does'nt even look human... :O(( that is reaaly depressing......

alot of the new FPS and RTS games don't look like that

Lee and Gai are comic relief of course they will look funny. Sadly the American dub did not catch the uniqueness of his voice, and that makes me a sad panda.
